Bergen County is home to some of the best public golf courses in New Jersey. With beautiful scenery and challenging holes, these courses offer an exceptional golf experience right in the heart of the Garden State.

Getting a Tee Time

Planning is key for getting a tee time at the popular Bergen County courses. The county operates an online booking system at where you can reserve up to 7 days in advance. Tee times open up every evening at 7 PM for the next available day.

The Courses

Bergen County manages six public courses:

Overpeck Golf Course – This 9-hole course in Leonia features narrow tree-lined fairways and small greens for a technical playing experience. The course is open year-round if weather permits.

Valley Brook Golf Course – Situated in Harrington Park, Valley Brook is renowned for its immaculate bentgrass greens. With elevation changes and scenic views, it’s regularly ranked among the best public courses in NJ.

Darlington Golf Course – Darlington is a par 66 course in Mahwah designed by legendary architect Hal Purdy. The hilly terrain makes for an exciting layout with strategically placed bunkers coming into play.

Orchard Hills Golf Course – Conveniently located in Paramus, Orchard Hills is a short par 3 course that’s ideal for beginners and working on your short game. The double green on holes 2 and 11 adds a unique twist.

Soldier Hill Golf Course – Soldier Hill features narrow, tree-lined fairways reminiscent of classic Northeast courses. Eleven ponds and small greens protected by bunkers require accuracy off the tee.

Rockleigh Golf Course – As Bergen County’s only 27-hole facility, Rockleigh offers three distinct 9-hole layouts. The White and Red courses have hosted USGA qualifying tournaments and the Blue course has panoramic views of the New York City skyline.

Registration and Fees

Golfers need to register for a County Resident Card or Non-Resident Card to receive preferred rates. Cards are valid for a full calendar year. Daily greens fees vary by season, with lower rates in the winter months. Multi-round packages are also available at a discounted price. Juniors can play at no charge when accompanied by a paying adult.
